Why conversion-focused websites need more than just design

A website has to do more than just look good. On my homepage, I explain that websites that do not perform cost you customers and revenue. Visitors form an emotional impression within five seconds; if your site is still loading or the message is unclear, you lose conversions. Conversion-focused websites combine design with psychology: you tell a convincing story, build trust, and guide visitors to a clear call to action. For businesses on the Costa Blanca – from Benidorm, Altea and La Nucía to Calpe, Dénia and Jávea – that first impression is especially important because the competition is high.

My commercial background as an advantage

Before I became a full-time web designer, I worked for years in international commercial roles and international sales engineering. My experience spans different countries and markets, which allows me to understand the various needs of both local and international clients. During that time, I learned how to uncover the real needs behind customer questions and how to translate technical products into tangible benefits. I still use those skills every day: I think not only as a developer but also as a salesperson. This helps me better understand what entrepreneurs need and how a website can increase conversions.

If you want to know more about my personal journey from artistic dream to digital reality, read my story – where I share how I moved from commercial roles into web development and why that path is now my greatest strength.

Applying sales psychology in design

From my philosophy, a good website is more than a collection of blocks. Thanks to my commercial background, I focus on elements that truly sell:

  1. Clear value proposition. Within a few seconds it must be clear what problem you solve and what benefit your customer gets. Use strong headlines and supporting copy.
  2. Visual hierarchy and speed. People decide based on emotion, so use colours, typography and layout to guide the eye. At the same time, make sure your site loads extremely fast – for example, by choosing a custom Next.js website.
  3. Social proof and trust. Testimonials, case studies or trust badges give visitors confidence. Link for example to the Real Estate Template case study where I show how speed and simplicity together lead to more leads.
  4. Clear call to actions. A button must stand out and be logically placed. Use contrast and persuasive text.
  5. Customer-focused content. Write from the perspective of your ideal customer and use their language. This is where my commercial background is valuable: I know how to translate technical solutions into benefits.

Practical examples

In the Gina Corsius case, I executed a complete rebranding where a new style and structure created more trust and clarity. The clear call to action on the site directs visitors straight to a consultation.

With the Real Estate Template, I combined neutral colours with fast loading times. Over 53 percent of people leave websites that take longer than three seconds to load, so speed is crucial. Thanks to a clear hierarchy and search function, visitors quickly find the right property and the chance of an enquiry increases.

If you want to see how I use custom development to increase conversions, take a look at my Next.js service for ultra-fast websites and flexible solutions.

I also built a platform for DamesZaken – a network for entrepreneurial women in Alicante – with an event calendar and registration system. Thanks to user-friendly design and clear navigation, the community is growing quickly and members feel connected.

Another example is the Lujo Luxury Living case. When this luxury furniture store in La Marina saw its Shopify webshop collapse because all product images disappeared, I solved the problem by developing a CDN proxy that automatically retrieves and synchronises the images. At the same time, I added detailed product descriptions and dimensions, which significantly increased conversions.

Conclusion and content advice

A commercial background gives you an advantage when building conversion-focused websites. By finding the right balance between design, speed and sales psychology, you can convince visitors and increase your revenue.
